Mumbai Based Investors to set up bamboo units in Tripura

Two Mumbai-based entrepreneurs have agreed to invest Rs 80 crore for setting up two industrial units – plywood manufacturing and incense stick-making factories at the proposed Bamboo Park. The Park, spreading over 69 acres of land at Bodhjungnagar Industrial Estate, 12 km from the capital town is scheduled to come up by end of this year. A business delegation of Mumbai had visited the Bodhjungnagar Industrial Estate and took interest in setting up bamboo based units. Of late, one company has booked allotment for five acres of land for setting up plywoodmanufacturing unit while another entrepreneur has decided to establish one incense stick making factory at an estimated cost of Rs 30 crore.

“Both entrepreneurs have already booked land for setting up bamboo based industrial unit at the proposed Bamboo Park”, said Chairman of Tripura Industrial Development Corporation (TIDC) Pabitra Kar here on Sunday. The Centre has funded the Rs 29 crore Bamboo Park for creating infrastructure like road, electricity and water. “Infrastructural works are in full swing and expected to get over by the next six to seven months”, he added. It may be noted that Chief Minister Manik Sarkar laid the foundation stone for the Parkon January 27 aiming to ensure value addition to bamboo. Tripura meets about 65-70 per cent of country’s bamboo requirement. According to experts, Tripura can produce 10 tonnes raw bamboo in one hectare land. However, the value addition to bamboo is still negligible in the State where 21 species of bamboo are available. Source: Assam Tribune
